About Dr. Ota
Education and Training
Dr. Ota graduated with honors from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island with a degree in Human Biology. She received her doctor in dental surgery from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 2013. Following graduation, she continued her education with a residency in Hospital Dentistry at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Ota was honored to be invited to become a UCLA faculty member by three separate departments. She is in her sixth year as Course Chair of the Special Patient Care Rotation at UCLA’s Hospital Dentistry Program. As faculty, Dr. Ota stays current on the latest research, standards of care, and treatment for medically complex individuals.
Dr. Ota joined the staff of Hoag Irvine and Newport hospitals in 2018. She is an active participant in Head and Neck Multi-disciplinary Conferences as well as regularly providing dental consults and clearance prior to head and neck cancer therapies. Dr. Ota supports her existing patients by providing routine dental care during in-patient hospital stays ranging from the neurological intensive care unit to the cardiac surgery floor.
In addition to her hospital-based patients, Dr. Ota has a general dentistry practice providing a full range of services to many individuals and their families in Orange County.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Ota has spent many hours volunteering for organizations including Ronald McDonald Camp, Special Olympics, CDA Cares Health Fair, RAM clinic Health Fair, VA Greater LA Healthcare System and multiple women’s shelters. In 2014, Dr. Ota traveled to Peru for a 17-day pediatric dental mission with the UCLA Hearts with Hope Cardiac Team.
Dr. Melissa Ota is a Southern California local, born and raised in Irvine. She attended Northwood High School where she was a tri-sport athlete in golf, soccer, and softball. She enjoys spending time with her 5-year old son Benjamin, 2-year old son Charlie and husband Alec.
